Episode 72 Manny Machado

First and foremost, who had Manny Machado going to the Dodgers?

Episode 72 of Foul Territory: A Baseball Podcast—the Carlton Fisk epidsode—gets its All-Star Game vibe on with hosts Jed Rigney and Jon Sumple talking about the pitcher’s duel turned slugfest in the ASG, the Home Run Derby “cheating” by Bryce Harper, Rob Manfred’s petty criticism of the best player in MLB history in Mike Trout, the rumor-turned-fact of Manny Machado heading to L.A., and Josh Hader getting blown up on the mound and for Twitter hate-speech from several years ago.

This week’s Headlines continue with Brad Hand getting traded to the Indians, the surprising (not) firing of Cardinals manager Mike Matheny, Chase Utley announcing this will be his final season (is he HOF bound?), Frank Thomas saying he was “hurt” by players who used during the steroid era, Shin-Soo Choo reaching base in 50 consecutive games, Kate Upton announcing that she and Justin Verlander are expecting, and Kevin Pillar landing on the DL after spraining his right sternoclavicular joint.

For this week’s Starting Nine, Jed delivers one of his best lists ever, featuring players with Tom Cruise movie names in honor of next week’s new Mission: Impossible—Fallout release. Around the Horn takes a “midseason” look at whether each team will perform better or worse in the “second half.”

Episode 72 wraps with Extra Innings, taking a look outside the world of baseball at the World Cup (which neither Jed or Jon watched), NBA superstar Kawhi Leonard getting traded somewhere he didn’t want to go, Jed’s developing animated show at ComicCon, and Marky Mark Wahlberg buying an auto dealership to feel the vibration.
