Quote of the Week

“ I don’t think I am done. I think I can do a lot of good things, and it is going to be a push for my Hall of Fame career.  ”

– Feliz Hernandez, Mariners pitcher

This Week in Baseball

Keeping Up with Kimbrel/Keuchel...

Usually when there are top free agents available on the market, we get to hear lots of rumors and whispers and fantasies about where those players will land. Not with Dallas Keuchel and Craig Kimbrel. We are just a couple weeks away from the start of the season and neither of them has a place to play. The homeless problem in this country is a lot worse than any of us imagined.

Decent Proposal...

Alex Rodriguez announced via Instagram that he is engaged to Jennifer Lopez. According to an insider, Rodriguez popped the question during their getaway in the Bahamas. Love truly is the greatest performance enhancer.

Minimum Wage...

Last season Blake Snell won the AL Cy Young Award and his reward is just a $15,500 pay increase. It's even worse when you factor in that $10,000 of the raise is built in to a league-wide hike in the minimum salary. My advice is start your own thing and rake in the millions: Blake Snell's Snails for all your snail needs!

Long Live the King...

For first time since 2008, Felix Hernandez won't start the Mariners' opening day. Last season, King Felix became the first Mariners pitcher, and only the seventh pitcher overall to start an opener in 10 consecutive seasons. He's being dethroned by Marco Gonzales. Sounds like the work of those pesky Lannisters! (Yes, it's a Game of Thrones reference, get over it.)

Coke Is It...

Former All-Star pitcher Esteban Loaiza was sentenced to three years in jail in a cocaine case. He pleaded guilty to federal drug charges involving 20 kilograms of cocaine that he admitted he planned to distribute. As a former pitcher he was probably going to distribute it on the corners.

On the Air

“ Share the show. Don't be greedy. Or don't share the show and BE greedy because I admire that as well. ”

Why Billy Heywood Is the Greatest Fictional Baseball Manager of All Time

George Knox managed the California Angels in Angles in the Outfield. Lou Brown managed the Cleveland Indians in Major League. Jimmy Dugan, at times, managed the Rockford Peaches in A League of Their Own. None of these managers come close …

Why Doesn’t Anyone Want Cy Young Winner Dallas Keuchel?

Pitchers and catchers reported for Spring Training a couple weeks ago. We’re less than a month from the start of the season. The off-season is usually over by now. But Dallas Keuchel, one of baseball’s best free agent starting pitchers, …

Fear and Loathing in Spring Training

Spring is a time of new life. It is a time of flowers and leaves and hummingbirds and bees. It is also the time of baseball’s spring training, so called because the teams are training for the upcoming season and …
