“ Some stupid things you do in baseball work for myself and work for the team. ”

This Week in Baseball

All-Star Recap...

The American League All-Stars beat the National League All-Stars in 2019's Midsummer Classic. The AL staff combined to strikeout 16, dominating a loaded NL lineup 4-3 for its seventh straight win. Altogether a good night of baseball featuring the best players the sport has. And even some players from the Orioles and Marlins.

Trade Rumors

Well, it's that time of year again. The movers and shakers become buyers and sellers. We all follow social media, radio shows and TV reports for trade rumors of who might be traded whee and for whom. The good news is that with only one solid trade deadline on July 31st, we only have to do this once this year. So, it's like sex when you're married.

Starting Something...

The trade market got started with the Red Sox acquiring veteran pitcher Andrew Cashner from the Orioles. Cashner has been pitching surprisingly well this year and Boston hopes he will be a cheap solution to their struggling starting rotation. And if he doesn't they're threatening to send him back to Baltimore.

Deep Balls...

During an interview over the All-Star break, Justin Verlander said that the game balls are juiced and turning the game “into a joke.” It's a pretty hilarious joke where adult men get paid millions of dollars to play a game and apparently some of those men need to have a good cry.

In Honor of Tyler Skaggs...

In their first home game since Tyler Skaggs death, the Angels pitched a combined no-hitter and scored 13 runs while all wearing jerseys with “SKAGGS” above his number 45. Manager Brad Ausmus called it "one of the most special moments I've been a part of on a major league field in 25 years." And added, "You feel like it's partly Skaggsy's no-hitter." Rest in peace, Tyler Skaggs.

On the Air

“ If we're not going to dwell on the negative, then don't even mention the Marlins. ”

The Major League Baseball All-Star Game is easily the best of all major sports exhibition player showcases. It’s the only game played in very close approximation to regular-season games by including the concept of “defense” that the NBA and NFL …

Phil Regan Hiring Brings Underperforming Mets Back to the Future

With MLB teams now choosing pitching coaches from colleges and other diverse sources, given the new science of pitching, only Brodie Van Wagenen and the New York Mets would have chosen an octogenarian. Even though that octogenarian had been a …

Dave Dombrowski, Brodie Van Wagenen: Help! We Need Relief!

This has been a maddening baseball season for Brodie Van Wagenen of the New York Mets since day one, and now that Dave Dombrowski and the Boston Red Sox were thoroughly mauled by the Yankees in London last weekend, he …
