Quote of the Week

“ MLB created 16 playoff teams this year and still couldn’t get Mike Trout on to one of them. ”

– Molly Knight, The Athletic

This Week in Baseball

American League Playoffs...

The Rays, Twins and Athletics won their divisions and the Yankees, Indians and White Sox all look like strong contenders. The AL is a wide open race to the World Series, but if I had to bet, I'd say the winner will be the team that scores the most runs in each game against their opponent. Take it to the bank.

National League Playoffs...

The Dodgers, Braves and Cubs won their divisions and along with the Padres look like clearly the best teams in the NL. Sure, the Reds, Brewers, Cardinals and Marlins have a chance. After everything we've seen in 2020, we should all be certain that there is nothing that is certain.

He's No Angel...

The Los Angeles Angels have fired GM Billy Eppler after another losing season. He was able to get Mike Trout to sign a long-term deal with a hometown discount and he successfully landed Shohei Ohtani, but he also overpaid for Justin Upton and was unable to invent a time machine to get a good Albert Pujols.

Sign of the Times...

Ron Roenicke was let go as the Boston Red Sox manager after a brutal virus-shortened season. There has been some talk that Alex Cora might be back in Boston in 2021. It's uncertain because no one has been able to steal the signs.

Out to Pasture...

Long-time MLB almost-stars Alex Gordon of the Kansas City Royals and Hunter Pence of the San Francisco Giants both announced their retirement from baseball this past weekend. Both were key contributors on their respective teams' championship runs and we can only hope they can bring the same competitive fire to the shuffleboard courts and bingo parlors.

Well, it’s nearly the end of May, and the only professional baseball going on these days is in the Korean Baseball Organization. I’ve watched a few games, and bless their hearts, they’re out there playing baseball in games that matter. …

    Where’s Our Mike Piazza Moment?

I realize we all need to continue quarantining and practicing social distancing, and we absolutely must avoid large social gatherings. However, I really miss live competitive sports. I’m sure a lot of Americans share this feeling. The UFC was the …
